Loving the Stick and Ignoring the Carrot

Pardon the lack of activity recently. I’m currently adjusting to a sub-human sleep schedule as I try to adjust to the demands of “new media.” Speaking of how we prioritize things and motivate ourselves, here’s a neat piece on some old economist-derived misconceptions.

Fear not, Earthlings!

We come in peace?

We come in peace?

Okay.  Obviously Olympic mascots aren’t something to which people pay a lot of attention.  But if you’re hosting the Olympics in, say, 2012, and you’ve already had a few issues with some of your, ahem, graphic design choices, wouldn’t you make sure you had vetted everything properly before unveiling these?

As is, this guy is becoming the real world incarnation of Montgomery Brewster, an affable gozillionaire that can pretty much do whatever he pleases. It’s fun to watch.

But what will the Huffington Post say?

How not to get it wrong.

How not to get it wrong.

I’m shocked–SHOCKED–by this headline:

“Obama oil response: aggressive as crisis unfolded”

“The Gulf region, ravaged five years earlier by Hurricane Katrina, was on the verge of a second ecological disaster. Would there be a repeat of the bureaucratic bungling that marked President George W. Bush’s response to the hurricane?

While the Obama administration has faced second-guessing about the speed and effectiveness of some of its actions, a narrative pieced together by The Associated Press, based on documents, interviews and public statements, shows little resemblance to Katrina in either the characterization of the threat or the federal government’s response.”

Emu Evades Cops

Perhaps in reaction to yesterday’s post, wherein the emu discovered that the police were not on his side, a South Carolina emu hoofed it away from law enforcement today.

Missouri Stormtroopers Murder Puppies

Missouri police terrorize a family and murder their pets over a “small amount of marijuana.” Your tax dollars at work.
